Onboarding
Onboarding is the process of getting a new artisan onto the platform. With onboarding, we want the artisans to be able to create an account, set up their shop presence, and complete a survey about their business for research data purposes.
Artisanal Futures currently have two approaches to onboarding:
- Onboarding with verified artisans
- Onboarding with unverified artisans
- Onboarding with word of mouth artisans
Onboarding with verified artisans
A "verified" artisan is one who we have already met in person and verified that their business meets our standards. This process ideally means that the artisan should be able to create an account quick and easily.
We email them with a link to create an acocunt:
https://artisanalfutures.org/sign-up?code={CURRENT_CODE} (opens in a new tab)
From there, they are asked to set up their shop presence, and then complete a survey about their business.
Onboarding with unverified artisans (IN PROGRESS)
An "unverified" artisan is one who we have not yet met in person, or who wants to join the platform but has not yet been verified.
They first inquiry about membership via a google form. We then manually review their application to see if they meet requirements.
If they do, we then email them with a link to create an acocunt:
From there, they are asked to set up their shop presence. The survey responses from the google form would then be pulled and used. Saves them an extra step since we would just ask the same questions in the survey.
Onboarding with word of mouth artisans
A "word of mouth" artisan is one who is referred to us by another artisan. They would have the access code needed to sign up. So once they get the code from the other artisan, they would be able to sign up.

From there, it is the same as the verified artisan process.
